I had the pleasure of reading this book
recently, and am pleased to see such a valuable and educational book in
print. Ms Madden covers all areas of parenting, from prenatal to
adulthood and rites of passage. She includes information on working
with your child before birth, in order to strengthen that connection
between parent and child. This information includes the possibility
of meeting your child, even before conception, and she gives amazing
examples of just that, from her own experience, and from that of others.
Her book covers the obvious subjects of the Sabbats
and Esbats, with explanations of their significance and suggestions as to
activities and special items to have at that time. It also
contains suggested Menarche (Moon Lodge) rituals, newborn rituals,
teaching activities, health and healing, and interacting in the community,
among other things.
However,
what makes this book truly different from
other parenting books is how the author broaches the subjects of the secrecy we
often live within and practice our faith by, and how we relate to this as we raise our
children. The author even gives creative suggestions on how to
impress the need for caution to our children in a non-confrontational and
emotionally supportive way.
Pagan
Parenting also delves into the rather touchy
subject area of what happens if our child should decide to walk a Path different
than our own. Ms Madden deals with it in a rational, thoughtful way,
and offers possible alternatives to what might otherwise be an angry
response.
I
can't recommend this book enough. I found it to be very
thought-provoking, informative, educational, and a joy to read. All
Pagan families should have this book on their shelves. |
